I assume you should at least know how to use Windows and Steam. And, the Console. (Options-> Advanced Settings( Bottom ) -> Enable Developer Console)
This is a complete rework of what W0rf0x wrote.
There are 2 ways to host a server.
First, and Simpler War
You can host a server easily. Get The Orange Box ( or if you already have the games inside it ). Next, get Obsidian Conflict 1.34, if you haven't already. Then, restart Steam. Next, go inside the game. Click on "Create Server". This will open up a panel.
HOW IT LOOKS LIKE:

Next, start the server.
After that, if you want a LAN Server( where no other people can join ), just play. If you want an Internet Server, you need a few more extra steps. Open up the Developer Console by pressing (`) - DEFAULT -. Next, type the following in:
sv_lan 0
heartbeat
retry
changelevel

HOW IT SHOULD LOOK LIKE:

--Update with PART 2, which shows how to install plugins and host from srcds.exe . Most likely done tomorrow.

Side note, you don't have to put such a large number in lives, when you un-check the "Force Lives Mode" it won't use lives at all.

Ah, okay then.

Also, at the end of the post, you left some invalid bbcode "[/img][/b]".

That happens when you open a tag but don't end it, it just spews it out at the end of the message.

phpBB Seems to know to add it for you. I added mine, but it got crossed out. That's why the problem occurred.

It doesn't seem to affect anything though.

heartbeat queues your server to the main Steam server, so they show up on the OC 1.34 Server list. I think that's what it does. And, latest news, download at 89 % .

Valve have messed up the Steam Master Servers, and it affects all Source Engine games (yes, TF2 and DoD:S as well). The net effect is that the servers will pop on and off on the Internet tab of the server list, but will continue to remain accessible by players (they will also show up in their Favorites lists). Guess there's little that can be done about that...
